John Alt and Scarlett Breeding opened their architectural practice in 1987 with the goal of providing a new level of distinctive residential and commercial design services in the Chesapeake Bay region. Jay Schwarz has been practicing architecture in the Annapolis area since 1978. Alt Breeding Schwarz Architects was formed in 1997, combining both the expertise and personnel of the two offices. Since their merger, they have completed over $500 million in new construction and renovation projects which have received numerous design awards and recognitions. With the practice evenly divided between residential and commercial work (including commercial interiors), the office operates in design teams primarily focused on these architectural disciplines. These teams share the knowledge base and skills of the three principals and a talented design staff of eleven. This synergistic approach—coupled with a strong dedication to serving client’s needs—has produced some of the finest homes and commercial buildings in the Chesapeake region.
